Group Director (Media Relations & Corporate communications) – Pharmaceutical
London

Let’s talk numbers. More than 700 staff, across 15 offices, within 5 agencies, all boasting oodles of awards. Ooh la la folks, they’re a biggun! That’s the overarching view of our client, so let’s get down to the nitty gritty of this particular role – one of those 5 agencies has a knee-knockingly exciting opportunity that we’d like to discuss with you. We’ll get to the role specifics in a minute, but let’s talk basic facts first. They’re a healthcare-focussed marketing communications agency, with clients in the pharma, biotech, medtech, genomics and digital health fields. They create exceptional integrated brand and digital strategies, creative development and communications services – and we really like them. They’re the sort of organisation that inspires genuine flutters of excitement, because the stuff they’re doing is industry-leading and a whole lot of clever. Inspirational you might say. And now you could be one of their hallowed numbers. They’re refreshingly non-hierarchical and every level is encouraged to get involved and throw their ideas into the mix, and they’re all about team-glory rather than egos. In other words, they’re friendly, they’re fun and they’re looking for someone to hop into their collective bed (figuratively, not literally). Obvs.

The role
Think of your best role ever, then times it by 100. This is it. Because in this great position, you’ll get to work with some of the life science industry’s most exciting clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices and health IT fields. At the helm of some truly pant-pinging projects, you’ll lead cross-functional teams in creating and delivering client engagements and compelling corporate and media-friendly communications. From first strategy to execution and beyond, you’ll be involved in every element of creative client engagements, including assessing the success of your methods. Working with legacy clients and looking for new business opportunities, you’ll implement your ideas across different communication platforms, and you will oversee the distribution of client announcements via the relevant regulatory channels, following up with the media to ensure you’ve reached the desired audiences. Working in cahoots with the other service leads (such as social media, digital and integrated) you’ll see to it that the agency are living up to their integrated reputation. All in all, it’s a cracking role, with the chance to do some really bold stuff.

You will
• Have at least 10 years of client-side experience or experience in an integrated PR/Marketing agency.
• Love the life sciences sector.
• Have tip-top relationships with the UK and European media (because otherwise you’ll be a total disaster in this media
relations role!)
• Love a spot of foreign travel (quite frankly, who doesn’t?) as about 20% of your time will be taken up with client conferences
and meetings overseas. Passport at the ready…
• Have a degree. If that happens to be in a scientific discipline – or if you have scientific knowledge from a high-science
business area – then that would be ace, but this isn’t a deal-breaker.
• Be digital savvy.
• Have project management experience – so you’ll also be super-organised with great leadership and motivational skills. A
people person, a guru, someone who people want to do well for. You get the picture…
• Be unphased by influence-managing matrixed teams.
• Be responsible for the financial performance of your engagements – so you’ll need to be numerate.
