Our client is an independent Medical Communications agency which due to sustained growth is seeking a Scientific Lead to join their team in their Cheshire offices.

As part of the management team you will be responsible for assigned accounts, ensuring that strategic and tactical initiatives are implemented to the highest possible standard.

Scientific and Editorial:

  • Provide senior level scientific, strategic and commercial expertise to multiple therapy areas, products and clients
  • Research, write, edit, proofread and data check scientific materials over a full range of deliverables and target audiences, to the highest level of accuracy and completeness
  • Review scientific content to ensure that materials comply with client/internal SOPs, industry compliance guidelines, deadlines, budgets and other agreed specifications
  • Attain and maintain awareness of therapeutic area, competitors and new products/indications for relevant accounts
  • Support the recruitment process, advising on needs, reviewing candidate writing tests and participating in the interviewing and selection process
  • Keep up to date with industry self-regulation and compliance guidelines (e.g. copyright, GPP3, ICMJE, ABPI, PhRMA, CONSORT, client-specific, etc.)

Project Management:

  • Liaise effectively with clients, external experts and authors to establish, develop and maintain strong relationships and advocacy
  • Manage on-site delivery to meet client/faculty/attendee/internal requirements
  • Ensure own and line reports’ timesheets are completed accurately and submitted on time
  • Line Management / Mentoring
  • Work with company Directors to actively create and maintain a positive working environment that reinforces the culture and values of the company
  • Provide support, mentoring and timely, consistent and constructive feedback to editorial team members on quality of work, working relationships and behaviours, to aid their professional development and ensure quality standards are met
  • Foster team spirit and a sense of leading by example

Business Development:

  • Take responsibility for ensuring the organic growth of key accounts
  • Generate, develop and secure new business opportunities through the provision of added-value strategic insight and scientific expertise
  • Lead the development of new business proposals and pitches

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Life science degree, preferably higher degree
  • Significant medical writing experience
  • Previous medical communications agency experience both in a writer and reviewer capacity
  • Previous line management or mentoring experience
  • Excellent English language and grammatical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent team work
  • Excellent decision-making ability
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent analytical/strategic skills
