Senior Medical Writer

This is a great opportunity to join a leading medical communications agency in a medical writing capacity and be based in either their London of Cheshire offices.

This varied role will involve writing, editing, and proof-reading medical communications materials as well as to working with design and production teams to produce a range of printed and digital materials that meet the goals of their pharma clients.

Working within an editorial team of about 15, you will have line management responsibilities, as well as the chance to work on some work on ground-breaking products for industry leading clients in the oncology and respiratory therapy areas. This is a tight-knit team where everyone helps one another and there’s no great hierarchy, so you will get to work across more projects and take on responsibilities more quickly.

  • Write and edit publication manuscripts, slide kits, monographs, newsletters, meeting reports, posters and other materials
  • Draft and edit work in different writing styles targeted at different audiences in different therapy areas. Incorporate feedback from editorial colleagues, clients and independent clinicians.
  • Proof-read all editorial work to comply with house style.
  • Devise interview questions and interview key opinion leaders
  • Assist with development of concepts for editorial projects
  • Attend conferences, scientific symposia, and advisory boards, participate in on-site activities and take notes and produce top line reports / summaries of advisory board or symposia sessions

Editorial Project Management:

  • Assist with the project management of one or more larger editorial projects
  • Determine deadlines and budgeted editorial hours for each project undertaken
  • Coordinate with client services and other colleagues to reach a consensus on content and style for assigned editorial projects
  • Coordinate with design and production teams, sourcing graphical representations, and contributing ideas for optimizing design and layout of assigned editorial projects
  • By drawing on working knowledge of the different tools available for communicating messages in the pharmaceutical industry, support project teams, contribute ideas, and share experiences. Play an active role in establishing a cohesive and dynamic relationship between the client services team, other editorial colleagues, and the client
  • Assist in creative development and writing detailed proposals for new business

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A life sciences degree required, ideally combined with a Master’s degree or PhD
  • Previous medical writing experience gained within a medical communications agency or pharmaceutical environment
  • General computer literacy
  • Proficiency in online medical resource searching (Pub Med, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good creative thinking and problem solving skills
  • Multitasking and flexibility
  • Interested in personal development
  • Team player
