This is a unique opportunity for a Senior Medical Writer, who is particularly interested in projects with a creative and commercial focus (no publications), to develop this role within a medical education agency in their Buckinghamshire office.

The SMW will be responsible for editorial development of educational materials for their domestic and international clients produced in both traditional (slide decks, booklets, meeting materials, supplements) and digital (websites, webinars, video) formats.  The SMW will work closely with internal programme teams, clients and medical experts to define the content development process and ensure all materials are written to the highest scientific quality.

You will develop education materials, including but not limited to: slide decks, patient and HCP materials, digital media (websites, webinars), meeting materials (agendas, invitations, delegate booklets), advisory board reports and publications (supplements/reviews). You will lead delivery of assigned projects, including taking responsibility for development process, review, approval and adherence to timelines and quality standards.

 Writing:

  • Good working knowledge of scientific materials and data presentation formats – ability to develop and critique for scientific accuracy
  • Strong capability in scientific writing and communication of scientific concepts, including accurate sourcing and referencing of medical information
  • Ability to adapt writing style to different audiences (patients, HCPs, nurses, clinical specialists, etc.)
  • Onsite attendance at scientific meetings, as required
  • Development of meeting reports, including advisory boards, symposia and standalone meetings

 Project Management:

  • Effectively lead content development of assigned projects
  • Manage delivery process of assigned projects, from draft development to content approval and sign off (medical review, zinc approval)
  • Work to agreed project brief and specification – proactive communication to programme leads if out of specification work is required
  • Ensure all materials are written to the highest scientific standards, including clear presentation, data accuracy, clarity and consistency of language, and appropriate for the intended audience

 Client Management:

  • Direct client content for delivery of specified projects
  • Attendance at client and speaker/author planning and briefing meetings
  • Responsible for keeping the client and team updated on assigned project status and process

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Degree level or equivalent in medical or biological sciences.
  • Previous medical writing /content development experience, either in a Medical Communications agency or pharmaceutical company environment.
  • Previous experience of writing and reviewing a range of pharmaceutical marketing materials
  • Ensure content is developed to brief and to good publications practice guidelines for working with authors/external experts
  • Excellent communications, organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Keen eye for detail
