Here is an opportunity to join one of the world’s leading medical communications agencies as a Director of Scientific and Editorial Services and be based in either their London or Cheshire offices.

You will be responsible for working closely with the agency Managing Director and Director of Client Services to ensure the agency’s mission, vision and goals are achieved. You will set operational and service standards for the editorial team, support business development and drive the cultural identity of the agency in line with company values.

  • In collaboration with the Director of Client Services and Managing Director act as a leader and role model for company culture and values
  • Set service and operational excellence standards and ensure these are consistently achieved
  • Ensure adherence to international, national and industry-specific compliance guidelines (e.g. IFPMA codes of practice, ICMJE, GPP and company-specific/client SOPs)
  • Encourage and foster an innovative approach to agency service development in line with client feedback and needs
  • Ensure financial and operational metrics are achieved; as part of the management team, reviews financial performance on a monthly basis and initiates any actions necessary
  • Forecast head count and ensure efficient operational allocation of resources to accounts
  • Use your experience and understanding to assist in the development of proposals, pitches and the development of medical education and publication plans
  • Actively supports cross-agency and company initiatives to enhance service offerings, facilitate sharing of best practice and to ensure continuity in approach to staff development and training
  • Is responsible for performance assessment, personal development plans, training identification and day-to-day line management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Life science degree is essential, ideally combined with a higher qualification
  • A wealth of agency consultancy, strategic operational management and financial experience in medical education and communications
  • Has a broad understanding of the pharmaceutical market, market research, drug development, regulatory and payer environments and is able to apply this knowledge to brand positioning, messaging and promotion
  • Broad scientific and therapeutic exposure with excellent scientific and editorial competency
  • Proven ability to work as part of a senior management team to develop business plans, set staffing levels, service metrics and key performance indicators
  • Experience of line managing and directing senior medical writing and scientific advisory staff and acting as an agency leadership figure
  • Track record of leadership of new business proposals and pitches from scientific and editorial perspectives
  • Excellent interpersonal and client liaison skills
  • Strong presentational, influencing and networking skills
  • Strong financial acumen
