Director Policy & Patient Access – Biotechnology

What do you get when you combine a pharmaceutical entrepreneur with a big dollop of conscience? Our client, that’s what! Delivering the types of treatments and therapies that are life-enhancing, their progressive approach to tackling rare diseases and disorders of the central nervous system is nothing short of marvellous. But what makes them so special (and this is what truly makes our heart sing) is that they genuinely care about the patients they’re trying to help, and the medical professionals who rely on their innovative solutions. As one of the smaller biotechs out there, they are deliberately nurturing an inclusive and innovative environment where every member of the team plays a vital role in developing and commercialising their products. The resulting atmosphere is a bit like when a team of old friends come together – just without any embarrassing anecdotes. They’re friendly, they appreciate every viewpoint, and they’re absolutely, 100%, definitively creating deliciously brilliant and life-affirming solutions.

The role:
Our client wants to ensure that the patient remains at the heart of every decision and every thought process, so they’re looking for someone who shares their passion for creating and delivering drugs that don’t just address medical needs – but that are created with the patients’ overall opinions and life-stages in mind. That’s where you come in. Working in conjunction with the medical affairs and commercial teams, you will ensure the voice of the patient and their perspective is present in all activities, research and development, linking drug development to the people it is being developed for. With a particular emphasis on those with rare types of epilepsy, you will build solid relationships with advocacy thought-leaders to develop the community’s understanding of the company’s high-level policy and access issues, representing the company on an international stage across Europe. Developing a patient advocacy plan (that will impact on both the EU and the US) you will also ensure professional, payer and government bodies are aware of the company’s views relating to policy initiatives, and you will establish areas of mutual interest.

You will:
• Enjoy the occasional work trip to Europe (2-4 days per month) and the US (2-4 times per year).
• Be super-clever. You’ll need a degree in Life Sciences/Economics.
• Have experience in the Pharma, Biotech or Strategy Consulting sphere, with a background of working with multiple
stakeholders such as patients, payers and policy makers.
• Like a challenge. You’ll need to have good project management and deadline-making skills with the ability to plan and set
priorities. If you’re chaotic, don’t bother applying!
• Be top-notch (personality-wise). This is a role that relies on building relationships and partnerships, so you’ll need to be really
darned nice with solid influencing skills.
• Be ambitious, perseverant and flexible. If you’re a go-getter, you’ll fit right in.
