Therapy Area Communications Manager – Pharmaceutical

Our Berkshire-based client are a tasty proposition. As a global pharmaceutical company that focusses on both human and animal health, they deliver research-driven results that improve life outcomes for millions of people – and their furry friends too. Now this particular role is all about human health – so you won’t need to worry about anyone with more than two legs. And it promises to be a really rather marvellous challenge at that. Currently being offered as a 6-month contract, there’s a strong possibility that the role could also become permanent. So you could either view it as a great short-term position (a bit like a passionate, but short-lived relationship) with the scope to forge a dynamic network of contacts, or you could see it as your chance to worm your way into their psyche, so that they can’t bear the thought of life without you – just like a marriage! However you want to play it, we’re on your side – and let’s face it, sometimes it’s nice to have a little flirt without knowing what the end outcome will be…

The role:
We’re going to be frank. This is a downright marvellous position that you’d be absolute nuts to pass up on. Taking responsibility for diabetes as your designated therapy area, you’ll be at the helm of all product communications across the UK business and various franchise groups. Handling launch and pre-launch communications, you’ll shape and implement the relevant strategies, develop content for digital channels and social media platforms, and execute plans. Whether you’re doing a spot of forward-planning for medical professionals, media and patient groups, or managing a little crisis, every day will present you with new challenges – the type that you can really sink your teeth into. You’ll also get to enjoy the social aspect of this role, working with patient organisations in the diabetes field, and supporting the internal engagement team with ideas and images – so there will be oodles of opportunity to showcase your knowledge. Plenty of kudos here, people.

You will:
• Be an all-round brilliant communicator. Someone who can do everything from support colleagues drafting pharmaceutical
packs, to working with patient groups and stakeholders. So you’ll know how to get an audience chatting – and listen when it
• Have experience in product communications in the pharmaceutical and/or health sector – ideally either in an in-house role (in
an external facing position) or in a specialist consultancy.
• Be media savvy (both traditional and digital) with the ability to generate glowing media coverage.
• Also know the sensible stuff – like whether your communications activities are compliant with ABPI guidelines, how the NHS
is structured and UK drug-approval processes.
• Be credible, with the capacity to learn quickly – so you’ll be a bit like a sponge, absorbing lots of info and squeezing it out for
whoever fancies a good drenching in your knowledge.
• Be clever – a bit of a thinker if you will. The type of person who either is, or could have been a graduate (the qualification is
optional folks).
• Be a decision-maker, a creative-thinker and an influencer, with strong attention to detail.
• Know how to manage agencies and negotiate budgets.
